For referees managing more than the basics
RefereeCard Command is the most detailed layout in the RefereeCard lineup, built specifically for referees who need a structured way to track misconduct, substitutions, timing, match conditions, and additional notes/details, typically required for professional-level matches.
It is designed for referees officiating matches where clean, detailed match administration matters — especially when post-match reporting requires more than goals and cards.
A command-center layout for match details
Some referees want goals, misconduct, and substitutions. Others need a more complete match admin tool: Substitutions, substitution moments, misconduct, temperature readings, half start times, and additional notes that may need to be referenced later.
Command is purpose-built exactly for that workflow, so you can record everything you need on one single card.
Why referees switch
- Enhanced substitution tracking layout designed to minimize mistakes and speed up management
- Includes dedicated substitution moment tracking
- Dedicated misconduct tracking
- Space for temperature and WBGT readings in each half

- Additional notes space for each team
- Pencil-erasable workflow with no solvent cleanup

- Fourth official assignments
- Matches with detailed reporting expectations
- Referees who prefer managing substitutions and key match details without needing to track goals and goal scorers
Important note
Command is not the “only” card for designed for professional matches. Some referees prefer the more simple RefereeCard Control layout to track goals, misconduct, and substitutions.
Command was originally designed specifically the fourth official responsibilities on professional matches, but is great for any referees who want or need the additional timing, temperature, and note-taking fields.
How it works
- Write with pencil during the match, with one team on each side of the card
- Track substitutions, misconduct, timing, temperatures, and notes in the dedicated sections
- Erase after the match and reuse it for the next assignment
How to manage substitutes with the FourthCard
- Prior to the start of the match, populate the substitution sections for each team with the uniform number of each eligible substitute
- When a team makes a substitution…
- Record the time of the moment
- For the player(s) entering the match, record which the ordinal substitution number (first, second, third…) and moment associated with the substitution
- This system ensures that only players listed as substitutes on the roster can enter the match as a substitute, which eliminates the possibility of an un-rostered or substituted player entering or re-entering the match.

FAQs
What’s the difference between Control and Command?
Control is designed for goals, misconduct, and substitutions. Command focuses on misconduct, enhanced substitution tracking, timing, temperature/WBGT details, and additional match notes, and removes the dedicated space for tracking goals and goal scorers. The quality, shape, design, and material are identical.
Does Command track goals and goal scorers?
Command is designed around match administration rather than goal-scorer tracking, based on feedback and testing with referees working at the highest level. Goals can be tracked in the notes section for each team, but if you want dedicated goals + misconduct + substitutions, choose RefereeCard Control.
Is Command only for professional referees?
No. While Command is purpose-built with professional-style match admin in mind, any referee who wants a more complete tracking layout can use it.
Do professional referees ever choose RefereeCard Control instead?
Yes. Some professional referees prefer a simpler layout with goals, misconduct, and substitutions. Command is best for referees who want a single, consolidated place to track additional details like temperature, half start times, and notes.
Is Command good for Fourth Official assignments?
YES – In fact, Command was originally designed as a fourth official-specific product.
What should I use to write and erase?
Pencil is recommended, but a permanent marker can be used as well. For pencil, we suggest a #2 mechanical pencil for clean and consistent writing.
How do I erase it?
For best results, use a white (soft) pencil eraser, most commonly found on mechanical pencils. If using a permanent marker, alcohol or nail polish remover should be used – we recommend nail polish remover wipes.
Will it work in rain or sweaty conditions?
Yes. All RefereeCard products are built for real match environments and handle moisture far better than paper or other write-on card products. When used with pencil, RefereeCard products even work underwater!
Is Command higher quality than Core or Control?
No. Core, Control, and Command are different layouts built for different match admin needs. They share the same reusable, pencil-erasable material and craftsmanship as all other RefereeCard products.
